Education and Training Program in
Occupational Health Services Research and Policy

 
 
Introduction to the Program

The Division of Environmental Health Sciences (EnHS), and the Division of Health Policy and Management (HPM) in the School of Public Health at the University of Minnesota have established a collaborative doctoral-level education and training program in occupational health services research and policy. This new program builds on existing doctoral programs offered by both divisions. Students may enter through either division. All students will take a rigorous two year program in statistics, research design, sampling, survey methodology, econometrics, health economics, occupational and environmental epidemiology and toxicology, exposure assessment and policy. Doctoral students in EnHS will obtain a minor in health services research, policy and administration. Doctoral students in HPM will complete supporting course work in environmental and occupational health. (read more)

Ph.D. Candidates at Graduation

Rada Dagher,(right) PhD student in Health Management Policy (HPM), has worked with Pat McGovern and Bryan Dowd (HPM) on her dissertation topic: “A Longitudinal Analysis of Postpartum Depression among Employed Women.” Previously she was awarded Best Student Poster Award at the annual meeting of AcademyHealth, the national conference for health services research, 2005. She has accepted an assistant professor position in health services research at the University of Florida, Gainesville. (06/07)

Mira Grice, (left), PhD student in EnHS with a focus in occupational health services research and policy has worked with Pat McGovern and Bruce Alexander on her dissertation topic: “The Impact of Work-Family Conflict on Maternal Health One Year After Childbirth: A Longitudinal Analysis.” She has an article in press: Grice M, Feda D, McGovern P, Alexander B, McCaffrey D, Ukestad L. “Giving birth & returning to work: The Impact of work-family conflict on women’s health after childbirth,” Annals of Epidemiology, and is interviewing for assistant professor positions for fall 2007. Grice Receives Poster Award

Mira Grice, PhD Candidate received a Delta Omega Honorary Public Health Society Student Poster Award
for her poster titled "The Impact of Work-Family Conflict on Maternal Health Six Months After Childbirth." Mira was awarded $500 from the Dean's office (SPH) as well as $250 from Delta Omega. (11/06)
