A celebration for the start of the Minnesota study center of the National Children's Study was held on Wednesday, January 16, at the McNamara Alumni Center, at the University of Minnesota. The National Children's Study, sponsored by the National Institutes of Health, is the largest and most comprehensive study of children's health ever conducted in the United States, exploring possible links between child health and a wide range of factors, including the environment, genetics, health care access and health behaviors.
Featured speakers at the event included: Patricia McGovern, Professor, Principal Investigator, John R. Finnegan, Jr., Dean, School of Public Health, Sarah Keim, Deputy Director, National Institute for Child Health & Human Development, NIH, Deborah Hendricks, Manager, Healthy Families Section, Saint Paul - Ramsey County Department of Public Health, and Senator Ellen Anderson, Minnesota State Senate.
