Thursday, October 23:

Seminar: "Social Analysis to Understand and Change Health Behavior". 1:30 to 3 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 23, 1-451 Moos T. Thomas W. Valente, Ph.D., Professor and Director of the Master of Public Health Program in the Department of Preventive Medicine, Keck School of Medicine, University of Southern California will present a seminar Thursday, Oct. 23. The seminar topic is, "Using Social Network Analysis to Understand and Change Health Behavior."

Prof. Valente will describe the field of social network analysis and present data from individual and community level studies that describe how network factors influence behavior. He will also present data on the effectiveness of network-based interventions and explore the utility of social network data for accelerating diffusion of innovations. Data and evaluation derived from studies of tobacco use, substance use, children’s health insurance coalitions, and many other settings.

Monday, October 27:

SPH Alumni and Friends Reception in San Diego (APHA). 6:30 to 8 p.m. Monday, Oct. 27, Buster’s Beach House, San Diego, CA. All SPH alumni and friends who are attending the Annual Public Health Association (APHA) conference in San Diego are invited to attend a special reception near the conference center. There will be appetizers, networking, and a few words from Dean John Finnegan.

 

Friday, November 7:

A Taste of Tropical Medicine: A Global Health Volunteerism Short Prep Course. November 7-8, Mayo Clinic -- Leighton Hall 2nd Floor Siebens Building. The Mayo Clinic Department of Medicine Program in Underserved Global Health is sponsoring the short prep course to help prepare those who want to volunteer in areas with limited resources. Speakers include 22 physicians from the University of Minnesota and Mayo Clinic who have expertise in travel and tropical medicine.
