Years of Recognition Ceremony for Civil Service and Bargaining Unit Staff. EnHS staff were recognized for their years of service on May 12 at the SPH Staff Association's annual recognition ceremony. EnHS staff who celebrated anniversaries were Karen Brademeyer- 30 years; Ann Fredrickson and Sarah Waldemar - 25 years; Paul Pagel - 15 years; Patty Beckmann and John Polanski - 10 years; Peggy Bradley, Susan Collins, Lea Matous, Elaine McCauley, Mary Lynne Steele, and Deborah Warren. McGovern and Peterson receive Faculty Excellence Award: EnHS students vote annually for the faculty member who provides excellence of graduate instruction and progress in the professional development of graduate students. This year there were two recipients of this award, Dr. Lisa Peterson and Dr. Patricia McGovern.

Division Head William A. Toscano, Jr. Ph.D., (photo left) received the 2005 Leonard M. Schuman Award for Excellence in Teaching at the April 29th School of Public Health Annual Joint Assembly and Faculty Meeting. This award is the School's highest teaching honor and recognizes exceptional teachers who challenge students with articulate presentations and thought-provoking analyses.


Dr. Gurumurthy Ramachandran's book Occupational Exposure Assessment for Air Contaminants, has been published by CRC Press, 2005.

Randall Singer, DVM, MPVM, Ph.D., Assistant Professor has been named a McKnight Land-Grant Professor (2005 - 2007) Land-Grant Professorship. The goal of this program is to advance the careers of promising junior faculty at a crucial period in their professional lives. Recipients are honored with the title McKnight Land-Grant Professor, a special award which they will hold for two years. The award consists of a research grant in each of two years, summer support, and a research leave in the second year.

The winners were chosen for their potential for important contribution to their field; the degree to which their past achievements and current ideas demonstrate originality, imagination, and innovation; the potential for attracting outstanding students; and the significance of the research and the clarity with which it is conveyed to the non-specialist. Dr. Singer's research area is infectious disease impact on human and animal health. has been named a McKnight Land-Grant Professor (2005 - 2007) Land-Grant Professorship. The Annual EnHS Picnic took place September 30 at Boom Island Park. Students, faculty and staff enjoyed good company, good weather and good food! Photos (10/05)

Tricia Carmody, a master’s student in environmental health sciences, is one of six students nationwide to receive a 2005 Industrial Hygiene Scholarship from 3M Corporation. As a winner of the $5,000 scholarship, awarded by the 3M Occupational Health and Safety Division, she was recognized for academic excellence and related work experience. (08/05)

Maurice (Mike) Mazzarella (right, with advisor Dr. Toscano) received his master's degree in public health on May 16, 2005. He's 82, and represents the lifelong learner, whose zest for life and learning never stops. More story. (05/05)
