Phthalates are composed of many compound forms. Phthalate exposure occurs in much of our everyday life, used in countless numbers of different products.
The following are the compounds and their common uses.XI
Diethyl phthalate (DEP) - Industrial solvent used in many consumer products, mostly in those containing fragrances. Products include perfume, cologne, bar soap, shampoo and hand lotion.
Dibutyl phthalate (DBP) - Industrial solvent used in products such as nail polish, cosmetics and insecticides.
Benzylbutyl phthalate (BzBP) - Industrial solvent used in products such as adhesives, sealants, cosmetics and car-care products.
Dicyclohexyl phthalate (DCHP) - Used primarily in research laboratories
Di-2-ethylhexyl phthalate (DEHP) - Primarily used to produce flexible plastics (PVC tubing, Blood bags). Formally used in childrens toys and food packaging in the U.S.
Di-n-octyl phthalate (DOP) - Primarily used in flexible plastics
Di-isononyl phthalate (DINP) - Primarily used to produce flexible plastics.
